Orange Rooms.
V.1 Sept 2017.
Q. How do you know about the Orange Rooms?
A. Orange is a bit of a staple in my hometown of southampton, they've always been cutting edge & I personally regard them as one the best venues in Southampton.
Q. Did you approach the project differently to other interior projects?
A. I think the core process is the same in terms of research & mood boards , but every project brings a uniqueness to it which is creatively challenging & rewarding plus makes us better designers in the process!
Q. Where did you start with the design?
A. I always do a lot of research before I start, I hadnt had a lot of knowledge about luchadors, so I research the history and created a mood board (see picture) ! Orange where great, they knew exactly what they wanted but gave me full creative license. which is always great!
Q. Why the Luchador theme?
A. Orange came up with the theme, it was just our task to flip it into something fun, vibrant & cool! For instance having The notorious BIG in a luchador mask gives it a current vibe whilst staying true to the brief!
Q. How did you design the mural?
A.We use a Wacom Cintiq 24" (see picture) which enables us to draw on a screen , so it feels just like traditional drawing onto paper! Our aim was to use a carnival of colours so it really popped! We also incorporated some star wars elements which is a big influence in Orange Rooms! So R2 D2 is hanging out with Jesus for instance.
Q. How did you feel when you saw the finished result installed?
A.This is the most rewarding part of the project, no matter how good it looks on screen, it always looks x 10 better installed! This could possibly be my favourite project this year, possibly!
Q. Who would win in a fight out of Spiderman or Batman?
A. Batman of course! Anyone that takes heath ledger to the cleaners isn't to be messed with.
